You bought an office chair. The lumbar pad sits too high, too low, or never touches the low back. Seat height is usable. The recline still moves. The pad still misses.
This is usually a mismatch. Height puts the pad above or below L3 to L5. Depth leaves a gap, or you sit forward so the pad never reaches you. Chair size builds the seat and back for a different torso.
The rule is simple: count height, depth, and chair size. If those three do not line up with your low back, a pillow or a deeper recline will not make the pad hit.
What "doesn't hit" actually is
Doesn't hit means the support never lands on the inward curve of the low back. The pad can sit on the ribs. It can sit on the sacrum. Or it can sit at the right height and still feel like air because it is too shallow, or because you are not against the backrest.
That's different from a chair with no lumbar part at all. A flat mesh back has no pad to miss. This page is about a pad, a frame, or a self-adaptive support that is on the chair and still fails to contact L3 to L5.
It's also different from a comfort complaint. A pad can hit and still feel firm. This page does not rate feel. It separates the three mismatches that keep a pad from landing.
Keep the three causes separate. Mixing them is how people throw a pillow at a height problem, or buy a taller chair for a depth problem.
Height, depth, chair size
Height. The lumbar curve sits at L3 to L5. A pad above that lands on the mid-back or the ribs. A pad below that lands on the pelvis. A height-adjustable pad still misses if every stop is outside that band. A self-adaptive support with no published height range cannot be parked on a specific vertebra. Manufacturer copy that says the support "moves with you" is not a height window.
Depth. Depth is how far the pad comes forward into the low-back curve. A height-adjustable pad that is still too shallow will not feel like it hits. A deep pad on a tall back can sit on the ribs. Depth also fails when you sit forward. If the seat is too long, you leave a gap so the edge does not press the knees. The pad then sits behind you. No amount of lumbar height closes that air gap.
Chair size. Seat depth and back height are built for a torso range. A long seat pushes a shorter user forward. A short seat leaves thighs hanging and the pelvis rotating. A tall back can place even a well-shaped pad up on the ribs. A short back can park it on the sacrum. Buying a "bigger" chair without checking usable seat depth and back height is a size guess, not a lumbar fix.
UPLIFT's Clarksville manual tells you to sit against the backrest and leave about an inch between the seat edge and the backs of the knees before you touch lumbar height. That order matters. Depth and size first. Height second.
UPLIFT Clarksville and Sihoo Doro C300
These two chairs are the spec contrast this page can name. This is not a pick list. This page does not say which pad is more comfortable. WorkstationSetup has not sat in the C300. The Clarksville hands-on notes live on the existing review. They are not repeated here as a sit-test.
UPLIFT Clarksville (CHR475). UPLIFT's current product page lists a concealed lumbar adjustment with 4 positions. The CHR475 spec sheet labels that control "Height Adjustable Lumbar Support." It does not publish the travel in inches. It does not publish lumbar depth. The official instruction manual says to lift the bottom edge of the chair back until it clicks, and that each of the four locking positions is meant to cover a range of body types. Pulling the backrest past the highest setting drops it to the lowest. That is a height control. It is not a depth dial, and it is not a firmness ladder.
Clarksville size figures that do not conflict: usable seat depth 17.3 to 20 inches with a documented left-side slider, seat height 17 to 22 inches, back 18 inches wide by 22.5 inches high, overall height 39.3 to 44 inches, 300 lb capacity. Recline is a 2:1 synchro-tilt, three tension levels, five locking positions, up to 40 degrees. There is no headrest. If the four clicks still miss L3 to L5, UPLIFT has not published a longer lumbar window you can buy on this chassis.
Sihoo Doro C300 (standard, current US page). Sihoo's current US product page describes the lumbar as self-adaptive. It says the support adjusts itself to the spine and that no manual adjustment is required. The page does not publish a lumbar height range in inches. It does not publish lumbar depth. It does not name a height click or a depth knob. A Sihoo US blog describes springs and pivot points that change pressure as you lean. That is manufacturer language. It is not a measured range, and this page does not treat the blog as a pad-style spec.
C300 figures that need the weaker reading:
- Seat depth. The current US page lists 17.13 to 18.11 inches. It does not clearly identify a user-operated slider. Official UK listings for C300 variants show 16.73 inches. An official EU listing shows a single 46 cm (18.11 inch) figure. This page keeps the US range as published geometry, not as a confirmed sliding seat.
- Back height. The current US page lists "chair back lifting height" at 18.11 to 21.65 inches. An official EU listing lists 6 cm of back lift. Those are backrest numbers, not a lumbar pad window. Sihoo does not publish how high the self-adaptive support sits on the spine.
- Recline. The current US spec table does not print a degree number. It names a weight-sensing mechanism. Official UK and EU shops list 110, 120, and 130 degree lock angles. This page does not treat 130 degrees as a confirmed US spec.
- Capacity. The current US page lists 330 lb. Official UK listings list 136 kg (300 lb). This page does not rest a size argument on those two numbers.
- Overall size. The current US page lists 28 by 28 by 42 to 49 inches and 50.93 lb. That is a taller, heavier chair than the Clarksville's 27.5 by 26.5 by 39.3 to 44 inches and 36.6 lb. Taller overall is not a higher lumbar pad. Sihoo does not publish pad height.
The published contrast is the control, not the comfort. Clarksville lets you pick one of four lumbar heights and a documented seat-depth slider. C300 asks you to take a self-adaptive support with no published height or depth travel, plus a seat-depth range that may not be a slider. If you need a documented C300-line slider, that control is on the Pro and Pro V2 pages, not on the standard C300 US spec table.
What will not fix it
A few common next steps do not move the pad onto L3 to L5.
A pillow thrown at a fixed pad. Extra foam adds bulk in front of the backrest. It can push you forward off the chair's own support. It does not raise, lower, or deepen the pad. If the mismatch is height or chair size, the pillow sits in the same wrong band.
Cranking recline. Recline changes the back angle. It does not add lumbar height clicks or lumbar depth. Clarksville's published recline is 40 degrees with five locks. C300's US page does not print a degree number. Opening either chair further can change where your torso meets the back. It is not a substitute for a pad that starts too high, too low, or too shallow.
Buying a bigger chair without checking seat depth. A taller back or a higher capacity rating is not a lumbar height range. The C300's US overall height (42 to 49 inches) is taller than the Clarksville (39.3 to 44 inches). That does not prove the C300 pad will land lower or higher on your spine. If the seat is still too long, you will sit forward again. Confirm usable seat depth and whether that depth is a user control before you order a larger model.
Turning a self-adaptive label into a height fix. Sihoo does not publish a C300 lumbar height window you can set. If the automatic support sits above or below L3 to L5 on your torso, there is no official click to move it.
Turning four Clarksville clicks into depth. Those stops change height. UPLIFT does not publish a lumbar depth range. If the frame is against you and still feels like it is missing the curve, the leftover problem is depth or chair size, not another click.
What can change contact, as setup, not as a test this page ran:
- Sit all the way back. Leave about an inch at the knees. Then set lumbar height.
- On the Clarksville, walk the four official stops. If every stop misses, the chassis has no published extra travel.
- On the C300, do not invent a hidden height slider. The current US page does not document one.
- If the seat forces you forward, the next check is usable seat depth, not a new pillow.
When a pad cannot do the job
Count the three numbers.
- Height: If the pad's published stops never reach L3 to L5, the control is the wrong tool. Clarksville publishes four height positions and no inch range. C300 publishes no height range. A missing number is not an infinite range.
- Depth: If you are against the back and the pad still does not enter the curve, height clicks will not create projection. If you are not against the back, fix seat depth before you blame the pad.
- Chair size: If usable seat depth and back height are built for a different torso, the pad is mounted on the wrong chassis. A 17.3 to 20 inch Clarksville slider can still be too long or too short. A 17.13 to 18.11 inch C300 range is a narrower published band, and it may not slide.
If height, depth, and chair size are all wrong, the pad cannot do the job. That is a different chair, not a different pillow.
