Ergotron’s LX and HX are not “good arm” versus “better arm.” They are two Constant Force desk arms aimed at different monitor weight windows. Buy the wrong one and you either underspec a heavy panel or hang a light screen on a spring that wanted more mass. The fork is the scale on your monitor’s spec sheet, not the chrome on the arm.

Lift is travel of the arm, not how tall the screen sits above the desk. Do not turn LX’s 33 cm into a mythical 33-inch lift.
Which job
Weigh the monitor before you romanticize polished aluminum.
LX is the everyday single-arm lane: 7–25 lb, about ≤34″ when weight allows, 13″ of lift, ≤25″ reach, full 360° rotation story. If your panel is a normal office or home display in that window, this is the arm people mean when they say “Ergotron.”
HX is the heavier / larger lane: 20–42 lb, about ≤49″ when weight allows, slightly less lift (11.5″), ≤23.6″ reach on the current manufacturer sheet, base rotation stopped at 180°. It also speaks a wider VESA dialect (including 200×100 and 200×200 on the HX Single). The catch on the light end: HX’s floor is 20 lb. A featherweight 24–27″ panel can sit below the spring window even if the diagonal looks “serious.”
Panels in the 20–25 lb strip are the awkward dinner guests. Both arms list capacity there. That is not a free “either is fine forever” coupon. It means you choose by which side of the line you expect to live on: everyday LX ergonomics, or HX headroom for heavier glass.
