The Ergotron LX is the long-running mechanical-spring arm. Amazon list $199.99. Ergotron rates it for 7 to 25 lb and typical screens through 34 inches, with 13 inches of lift.
UPLIFT’s Range-X Single is a gas-spring arm sold on UPLIFT’s site, not Amazon. Qty-1 is $139. UPLIFT rates it up to 17.6 lb.
Short version:
- Heavier than 17.6 lb: Range-X is out of its published ceiling. The LX still has room to 25 lb.
- Lighter than 7 lb: the LX is out of its published floor. Range-X is built for lighter panels.
- Between 7 and 17.6 lb: both windows cover it. Then you are choosing a mechanical spring and an Amazon listing versus a gas spring and an UPLIFT listing.

Will it hold the monitor?
Skip the diagonal on the box. Use the weight without the stand.
A 27-inch office panel usually lands in both windows. A 32-inch or ultrawide often does not. If the number is over 17.6 lb, Range-X is the wrong arm on paper. If it is over 25 lb, the LX is the wrong arm too, and you need a heavier-duty mount.
If the arm sags after you set tension, the usual cause is a panel outside the spring’s window, not a “cheap vs premium” story. Why a monitor arm droops walks through that.
The Ergotron LX
The LX uses a mechanical spring instead of a gas cylinder. Ergotron’s pitch is that the spring does not lose pressure the way a gas strut can. Once the tension screw is set, height should hold.
Lift is 13 inches. That is thirteen inches of travel, not a 33-inch column. Reach is up to 25 inches. Tilt is 75 degrees total, mostly up.
The 10-year warranty applies to Ergotron products made after July 1, 2014.
Amazon owners tend to say the same three things: it holds once you set tension, some mid-weight panels still need that screw cranked hard, and the clamp can mark a desktop. Those are listing themes, not a hands-on log of this arm.
Ergotron does not print a desk-thickness range on the spec sheet this page uses. If the desk sits flush to a wall, measure rear clearance before you buy.
The UPLIFT Range-X
Range-X Single is UPLIFT’s current gas-spring arm at $139. Black or Gray. It ships from UPLIFT, not Amazon.
The useful published number is the 17.6 lb ceiling. UPLIFT’s own pages disagree on the floor, the exact lift, and the exact tilt, so this page does not pick a winner among those figures. The clamp range is clear: 0.75 to 3.75 inches of desktop.

Bulk pricing and cart-wide codes are not the $139 qty-1 price. Treat $139 as the number for one arm.
Which one to buy
Take the LX if the panel is over 17.6 lb (and under 25), if you want a mechanical spring, or if you want to check out on Amazon.
Take Range-X if the panel is under 17.6 lb, you already buy from UPLIFT, and $139 is the budget.
If you wanted a cheap Amazon gas arm, that used to be the North Bayou F80. It is currently unavailable.

Frequently asked questions
Do I need to weigh the monitor?
Yes, without the stand. The diagonal on the box is a poor proxy. A light 32-inch and a heavy 32-inch are different arms.
Does the LX lift 33 inches?
No. It lifts 13 inches. 33 is the same figure in centimeters.
Can I put two monitors on one of these?
No. These are single arms. UPLIFT’s dual Range-X is a different product. Two LXs is two arms, not one dual mount.
Will it clamp to a standing desk?
Range-X lists 0.75 to 3.75 inches of desktop thickness. The LX spec sheet this page uses does not list a clamp range, so measure. For UPLIFT’s V3 frame itself, see the V3 review.
Is this a hands-on test?
No. The numbers come from Ergotron’s spec sheet, UPLIFT’s Range-X page and instruction PDF, and tonight’s list prices. It is not a test of these two setups.
